Fine Arts Department PhilosophyThe Fine Arts Department believes that a successful Fine Arts student is exposed to and uses a wide range and variety of subject matter whether it be visual arts, music, or drama. That student has the opportunity to grow through constructive and meaningful evaluation and self-reflection. By understanding the relationships between art forms, the creators, and the audiences, student artists will be able to develop pieces of art at greater depth using creativity and problem solving. Fine Arts Department Goals and Objectives Goal 1: To provide opportunities for student exploration in visual and performing arts with a variety of processes and methods through guided practice and performance. Objective 1.1: Extend the study of the visual arts by incorporating a wide range of subject matter, symbols, meaningful images and visual expressions in art work; extend the study of the performing arts by incorporating a wide range of subject matter, styles, genres, literature, and expression in performances. Objective 1:2: Develop deeper and more profound works of visual art/performances that reflect the maturation of the student’s creativity and problem solving skills. Objective 1:3: Understand the multifaceted interplay of different media, styles, forms, techniques, and processes in the creation of art works/performances. Goal 2: To encourage an appreciation of culture, history, and other disciplines through the study of art forms. Objective 2:1: Learn vocabularies and concepts associated with various types of work in the visual/performing arts. Objective 2:2: Reflect on the nature of human involvement in art/performances as a viewer, creator, and participant. Objective 2:3: Relate understanding about the historical and cultural contexts of art/music/theater to situations in contemporary life. Goal 3: To provide opportunities for reflection, assessment, and analysis of the characteristics and merits of the student’s work and the work of others. Objective 3:1: Grow in sophistication in employment of the visual arts/performing arts through reflection and evaluation. Objective 3:2: Develop abilities to ask insightful questions about contexts, processes, and criteria for evaluation. Objective 3:3: Understand relationships among art forms between the student’s own work and that of others. Objective 3:4: Use feedback from competition submissions and participation to refine skills and projects. |
